The JHP Data & IT Department oversees the comprehensive management of clinical trials data, utilizing advanced technologies and tools to ensure the authenticity, integrity, and contemporaneous reporting of the data collected. Data officers work directly with the clinical staff to ensure all materials and systems for data collection are in place, including digital platforms such as OpenDataKit (ODK), SurveyCTO, Kobo, OpenClinica, and RedCap. These technologies facilitate efficient and accurate data collection, enabling real-time monitoring and reducing the potential for errors.

Quality control activities are performed using these tools to ensure that the data collected is both accurate and complete before records are submitted. The integration of these technologies enhances the ability to track and manage data from multiple sources, ensuring consistency and reliability throughout the clinical trial process.

The Data & IT Department is responsible for submitting information from research participant charts and forms to large data management centers, which gather data produced by sites all over the world. By leveraging these platforms, the department ensures seamless data transfer and storage, allowing for robust analysis. In bringing together the efforts of many researchers worldwide, this collected data can then be analyzed to provide answers to critical clinical research questions.

This process ultimately contributes to advancing our understanding of HIV and related ailments, guiding improvements in strategies for prevention and treatment. Through the use of cutting-edge data collection and management technologies, the JHP Data & IT Department plays a pivotal role in transforming clinical research data into actionable insights that drive advancements in healthcare.
